Mid 1800's 8 Day Mahogany Painted Dial Longcase Clock

Mid 1800's 8 Day Mahogany Painted Dial Longcase Clock

SKU: 3511

This longcase clock is beautifully appointed with a painted arch dial, depicting the four seasons, brass final and floral work, two tone veneer columns and a rich mahogany case. Striking the hour on the bell, it dates back to the mid 1800s. On the painted arch itself is inscribed 'Sir Eldred of the Bower' along with a rural scene. This scene relates to a long poem by Hannah More, (1745-1833). In the middle of the clock dials, the words 'Leslie and W Black' are also featured. More delightful paintwork can be seen in each corner of the dial - scenes of a mother with her child, wrapped up warm, another lady haymaking in a field with her rake, a garden scene featuring an elegant lady with a basket of flowers, a gentleman lingering in the background, and people working in a field with sheaths of wheat, corn or barley, complete with scythe detail in the foreground.
